London
London Fire Brigade is the third largest firefighting organisation in the world, responsible for 1587 square kilometres of Greater London. It employs 7000 staff, operates 113 fire stations and attends approximately 140,000 emergencies every year including 14,000 serious fires. Its fleet consists of over 300 vehicles, including pumping appliances, fire rescue units and other specialist vehicles.
LFB is co-ordinating the FIRED-uP project and will lead on Work Packages 1,2,3 and 6.
Key issues for the Brigade are reducing vehicle emissions, in particular those that are the subject of the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ); improving fuel efficiency, reducing the use of hazardous materials and reducing waste in the production and at the end of life of vehicles. LFB currently has a long-term service contract in place covering provision of fleet and operational equipment, maintenance and management services. This contract provides for phased replacement of front line pumping appliances.
